Irving, Texas - University of Houston sophomore Amanda Carson was named the Conference USA Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for her performance the weekend of Oct. 31. The weekly award is the first in Carson's career.

The Allen, Texas native produced a C-USA weekly best 5.71 digs per set in the Cougars' 1-1 performance last week.

Carson also had match-highs of 24 digs at SMU and 16 at Tulsa. To round out the weekend, she had a team-best 40 digs and has 321 digs on the season.

This is the first career Defensive Player of the Week honor for Carson.

UP NEXT
Houston will return home to close out the regular season with three matches against Memphis (Nov. 7), UAB (Nov. 9) and Rice (Nov. 13). Prior to the Cougars home finale against Rice, the team will honor seniors Justine Farmer, Kelsey King and Barbara Freitas. Following the conclusion of the regular season, the Cougars will participate in the 2008 Conference USA Championship in Memphis, Tenn., on Nov. 20-23.
