Cougar Volleyball Team Sweeps Southern Miss, 3-0
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The University of Houston women's volleyball team coasted to a three-games-to-none sweep of Conference USA rival Southern Miss Saturday in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. With a 15-3, 15-1, 15-11 win the Cougars improved to 19-6 overall and 11-3 in C-USA action. After jumping out to an early 8-0 lead in game one, the Cougars had an even longer scoring streak in game two. Southern Miss scored the first point but UH rattled-off the next 15 straight on the way to a 15-1 final. The Golden Eagles then held an 11-10 advantage in game three but UH regrouped for a 15-11 final. It marked Houston's 11th 3-0 sweep of an opponent this season. Senior hitter Bobbi Stewart led all players with 12 kills while posting a .385 hitting percentage. Sophomore Jane Ann Karasek converted on 11 kills with three blocks. Sophomore Donna Sellen led all players with 11 digs. Southern Miss fell to 10-18 overall and 2-12 in conference play. Houston will next be in action at home in Hofheinz Pavilion on Friday, November 10. The Cougars will face Cincinnati in a C-USA contest that will be part of
a sports double-header with the men's basketball team. The volleyball match
will begin after the conclusion of the basketball game against EZY Bond
Australia (which tips-off in Hofheinz at 6:00 p.m.)
