Two Cougars Named All-Decade C-USA
Nov. 17, 2004 HOUSTON - Conference USA announced its All-Decade Volleyball Team today with two Cougars making the grade to earn spots on the 10th anniversary team, which honors the top players in C-USA history. Houston was one of only two schools to land two athletes on the All-Decade team, as former Cougars Michelle Frazier (1997-2000) and Jennifer Wittenberg (1999-2001) each made the cut for the 10-member team. Honorees for the team were selected through a nomination and voting process conducted through the C-USA offices and voted on by the current league coaches.
Frazier earned first-team All-Conference honors in 1999, was a second-team honoree in 2000 and 1998, and was a third-team member in 1997, as a freshman. In 1999 she was also named to the AVCA All-District VI team. Wittenberg was a two-time All-Conference First-Team selection in 2000 and 2001. Those same years she was named to the AVCA All-Midwest Region team. Each player has left their mark on the Houston record books as well as the Conference books. Frazier still holds the No. 2 position for most block assists in a match with 14, is No. 2 for career blocks with 577. Wittenberg is No. 2 and No. 3 for the most kills in a season. Other honorees for the All-Decade team included: Player of the Decade, Michelle Collier, USF; Julie DePont, Cincinnati; Laura Lauder, Cincinnati; Stephanie Bishop, DePaul; Sarah Drury, Louisville; Sonja Percan, Louisville; Colleen Hunter, Saint Louis; Erica Berggren, USF; and Coach of the Decade, Leonid Yelin, Louisville.
