Houston, TX -- The University of Houston volleyball team completed a three-games-to-none sweep of LSU Saturday afternoon in Hofheinz Pavilion to close out the 2000 regular season with 21 wins. The Cougars will now await a possible at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament which will be announced on Sunday evening, November 26.
The UH seniors took control to pace the Cougars to a 15-7, 15-4, 15-13 win over an LSU team that had reached the championship match of the SEC Tournament the week before. Outside hitter Jennifer Wittenburg led all players with 18 kills while Bobbi Stewart added 13 as Houston improved to 21-10 overall. Michelle Frazier hit for a .389 percentage and stuffed four blocks while setter Morgan Wallen led all players with 16 defensive digs and three service aces in addition to running the UH offense.
In the second match of the day's tournament action Texas-San Antonio, a team that has already secured a spot in the NCAA Tournament as the Southland Conference champion, won its 15th-straight match to improve to 24-8 on the year. UTSA defeated the SMU Mustangs by the scores of 15-4, 15-4, 11-5, 15-10. Road Runner true freshman Charlsie Heifrin led all players with 18 kills and six blocks while hitting for a .378 percentage. SMU fell to 14-17 on the year.
