HOUSTON -- The University of Houston volleyball team (21-10 overall) has earned its tenth-straight bid to the postseason championship and 11th invitation to "the big dance" in the last 12 years. The official announcement of the selection to the NCAA's 64-team field was made Sunday evening in Indianapolis by the tournament selection committee.
Houston's streak of NCAA Tournaments will now run to ten in a row with a bid to play state-rival Texas A&M in Stockton, California, on Friday, December 1. The Cougars are one of only 12 schools in the nation that have been to 10-straight NCAA Tournaments and even volleyball powers like Hawaii, Arizona, Pepperdine and Wisconsin can't make that claim.
The Cougars will be joined in the four team regional by Oral Roberts and the University of the Pacific, the regional host. In 2000 UH played 10 matches against eight teams that advanced to NCAA play, including an earlier date with the Aggies in College Station. Houston recorded 21 wins for the sixth time in the last seven years.
