Houston Volleyball Team Falls To No. 14 Ranked Ohio State
Los Angeles, CA -- The University of Houston volleyball team out-hit, out-blocked and out-dug No. 14 ranked Ohio State in Saturday's morning match of the Loyola Marymount Classic in Los Angeles, but it was the Buckeyes who pulled away with a 3-1 win. The Cougars will next face tournament host Loyola Marymount in a late match Saturday night in the LMU Classic. Ohio State won two of the first three games of the match 15-7, 6-15, 15-6, but the Cougars appeared to be well on their way to forcing a fifth game after jumping out to an 11-6 lead in game four. The Buckeyes however went on a run to tie up the game at 12-12 before pulling out a 15-12 victory. Houston continued its erratic serving with 16 errors against OSU. That followed the 13 errors in just three games in a loss to No. 12 ranked BYU the night before. The Cougars were paced by junior outside hitter Jennifer Wittenburg's 15 kills. Junior middle blocker Michelle Frazier added 10 kills, a .364 hitting percentage and seven blocks as UH fell to 3-3 on the year. Ohio State improved to 3-1. Houston meets Loyola Marymount at 7:00 p.m. (Pacific Time) Saturday night on the LMU campus.
