Houston Volleyball Defeats UNC Charlotte, 3-2

HOUSTON (Oct. 1) -- For the fifth time of this season and fourth in the last five matches, the University of Houston volleyball team won a match in the rally-scored fifth game. Friday night in Hofheinz Pavilion the Cougars had to come from behind to defeat Conference USA rival UNC Charlotte by a score of three games to two.

With a 10-15, 15-6, 12-15, 15-10, 15-10 victory over UNCC, the Cougars posted their fifth-straight win of the season, improved to 9-5 on the year and remained perfect in C-USA action at 4-0. Houston was paced by junior middle blocker Michelle Frazier, who recorded her second triple-double of the season with 16 kills, 18 defensive digs and a career-high 17 blocks. The native of nearby Kingwood, Texas, also hit for a .306 percentage and served a pair of aces in the nearly two-and-a-half hour long match. Senior hitter Kristin Guidish meanwhile led players in the match with a season-high 24 kills.

Houston was only six points away from dropping their first C-USA match of the season after losing game three and falling behind 9-4 midway through game four. The Cougars however put together an 11-1 rally to win game four and then used its blocking to help take game five 15-10.

All six UNC Charlotte hitters recorded double-figure kills in the match, led by Emily Bowers' 20. The 49ers fell to 6-9 overall and 1-3 in C-USA.
