Houston Volleyball Team Sweeps Tulane, 3-0

    HOUSTON (Nov. 5) - The University of Houston women's volleyball team claimed a three games to none sweep of Conference USA rival Tulane Friday night in Hofheinz Pavilion. With a 15-13, 15-8, 15-8 victory the Cougars won their fifth match in a row and improved to 18-6 overall and a C-USA leading 12-1 in league play.

    Houston fell behind 9-5 early in game one but the team went on a 10-4 run to win the opener 15-13. The Cougars then used the momemtum to take both of the next two games by identical 15-8, 15-8 scores. Houston was led by junior outside hitter Stephanie Heiskell's 14 kills while senior Kristin Guidish added 13 kills on a .294 hitting pace. Junior middle blocker Michelle Frazier spiked 10 kills, hit for a .429 percentage and posted five blocks with 12 defensive digs as UH swept an opponent 3-0 for the third time in as many matches.

    Tulane outside hitter Kim Sentmore led all players with 20 kills.The Green Wave fell to 11-14 on the year and 3-10 in C-USA action.

    Houston will be back at home in Hofheinz Pavilion for its next match on Sunday, November 7. The Cougars will meet C-USA rival Southern Miss in a match that will honor the three UH seniors. First serve with the Golden Eagles will be at 2:00 p.m.
