Athletic Communications THE POSITION: The University of Houston Athletic Communications Department is seeking aggressive, creative and self-motivated individuals to serve as student assistants, and become members of the Cougar Sports Athletic Communications staff for the 2011-12 school year. The department will hire between 6-8 student assistants each year. THE DEPARTMENT: The University of Houston Athletics Communications Department promotes and publicizes UH's 16 intercollegiate sports programs to raise awareness, increase attendance and ticket sales to each athletic event. The communications office is the liaison between the coaches and student-athletes and the outside publics, including the media. The office runs the in-game statistical software and all post-event media needs, in addition to managing all editorial content on www.uhcougars.com. The department also is responsible for being the historical archives of the athletic department. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Must be a current UH undergraduate student pursuing a bachelor degree in sports administration, journalism, public relations or related field. Must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Candidates must be team-oriented. Must be able to work 10 hours a week, including assigned office hours and events. Must be available on the weekends - including every home football game in the fall. BENEFITS: As a member of the Athletic Communications Department, one will establish a foundation for a career in public relations, increase his/her knowledge of the of different collegiate sports, and gain hands on experience in the sports industry. You will also gain valuable writing, design, and public relations experience and how it relates to the sports industry. Sports Marketing Internship Flyer in PDF Format THE POSITION: The University of Houston Athletics Marketing Department is seeking aggressive, creative, detailed and self-motivated individuals to serve as student assistants, and become members of the Cougar Sports Marketing Association (CSMA) for the 2011-12 school year. THE DEPARTMENT: The University of Houston Athletics Marketing Department advertises, markets and promotes all 16 intercollegiate sports programs to raise awareness, increase attendance and ticket sales to each athletic event. The marketing office coordinates the in-game production for each event and prepares promotional scripts for the game day staff. In addition to game production, they are concerned with the fan experience and game atmosphere and develop ways to improve each. The marketing department also works in conjunction with the ticket office to sell tickets and ticket packages to athletic events. Finally, the department oversees the licensing program for the University's trademarks and logos. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Must be a current UH student pursuing a bachelor degree in sports administration, marketing, business, advertising, public relations or related field. Must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Candidates must be team-oriented and must be able to work approximately 10 hours a week, including assigned office hours and events. Applicant must be available on nights and weekends - including each home event for his or her assigned sports and every home football game. Knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite is preferred.
