     ATHLETICS COMMUNICATIONS
    THE POSITION: The University of Houston Athletics Communications Department is seeking aggressive, creative and self-motivated individuals to serve as student assistants, and become members of the Cougar Sports Athletics Communications staff. The department hires between 6-8 student assistants each year.

    THE DEPARTMENT: The University of Houston Athletics Communications Department promotes and publicizes UH's 17 intercollegiate sports programs to raise awareness, increase attendance and ticket sales to each athletic event. The communications office is the liaison between the coaches and student-athletes and the outside publics, including the media. The office runs the in-game statistical software and all post-event media needs, in addition to managing all editorial content on www.uhcougars.com. The department also is responsible for being the historical archives of the athletic department.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    • Assisting with writing of press releases and organizing press coverage of UH's 17 sport teams.
    • Generating and maintaining content on UHCougars.com, the official site of the University of Houston Athletics.
    • Serving as secondary contacts for UH 17 sport teams.
    • Attending office hours and home sporting events for assigned teams.
    • Performing other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Must be a current UH undergraduate student pursuing a bachelor degree in sports administration, journalism, public relations or related field. Must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Candidates must be team-oriented. Must be able to work 10 hours a week, including assigned office hours and events. Must be available on the weekends - including every home football game.

     COUGAR PRIDE DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE
    THE POSITION: The Athletics Development Associate will report to the Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Relations and the Assistant Athletics Director for Development. Development Associates are key members of the athletic development staff. This position is responsible for providing support and assistance with the daily operation of the athletic development office. This position will work closely with the athletic and university development staffs to coordinate and implement donor relations strategies for fundraising priorities. Cougar Pride is committed to raising significant funds to offset the cost of athletic scholarships for our outstanding student-athletes and build relationships with current and future donors.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Included but not limited to):
    • Assist with the distribution of suite and club seat tickets and parking passes to donors prior to the football season
    • Under the direction of the Assistant Athletics Director for Development, coordination of the young alumni giving program;
    • Under the direction of the Assistant Athletics Director for Development, coordination of social media initiatives;
    • Assist with the H Association, Houston's student-athlete alumni organization;
    • Directly assist in all special events that are specific to the Athletic Department;
    • Perform donor and prospect research; Football and basketball game day development support;
    • Assist the Assistant Athletics Director for Development with the coordination of the annual membership fund drive;
    • Helping to identify, cultivate and solicit annual gifts from alumni and friends of UH Athletics;
    • Prepare and edit general correspondence to Cougar Pride members and prospects;
    • Various duties as assigned by the Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Relations and the Assistant Athletics Director for Development.

    QUALIFICATIONS: Applicant must be enrolled at the University of Houston; major in business, marketing, public relations/communications, or athletic administration is preferred; intercollegiate athletics development experience is highly desirable; ability to work 8-12 office hours per week and special events as needed; excellent written and oral communication skills; knowledge of Microsoft Office suite; effective interpersonal skills; strong self-motivated work ethic as well as strong sense of team work are essential; excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail; and the ability to professionally represent the University of Houston by demonstrating pride and loyalty.

     SPORTS GRAPHICS & WEB DESIGN

    THE POSITION: The University of Houston Athletics Graphics and Web Design department is seeking creative and self-motivated individuals to serve as a student assistant. To help increase and enhance the graphic standards, as part of the Houston Sports Marketing Association (HSMA)r.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include, but not limited to):
    • Design print materials, such as promotional flyers, posters, direct mailers, t-shirts, etc.
    • Critique group projects such as schedule posters, billboards, website re-design
    • Visually enhance web and social media graphics
    • Digital photography and image manipulation
    • Assist with coordination of various campus marketing and other events
    • Attending monthly student meeting and office hours as part of (HSMA)
    • Other duties as assigned

    BENEFITS: Establish a foundation for a career in graphic design/communication, while increasing his/her knowledge of design, production, photography, and team building.     2014-15 HMSA Internship Application

    THE POSITION:The University of Houston Athletics Marketing Department is seeking aggressive, creative, detailed and self-motivated individuals to serve as student assistants, and become members of the Houston Sports Marketing Association (HSMA).

    THE DEPARTMENT: The University of Houston Athletics Marketing Department advertises, markets and promotes all 17 intercollegiate sports programs to raise awareness, increase attendance and ticket sales to each athletic event. The marketing office coordinates the in-game production for each event and prepares promotional scripts for the game day staff. In addition to game production, they are concerned with the fan experience and game atmosphere and develop ways to improve each. The marketing department also works in conjunction with the ticket office to sell tickets and ticket packages to athletic events. Finally, the department oversees the licensing program for the University's trademarks and logos.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    - Assisting with the marketing and promotion of assigned UH sports to increase awareness, attendance and ticket sales
    - Leading and assisting with promotional activities, script writing and game production
    - Developing and implementing marketing plans for assigned sports

    - Assisting the staff with maintaining email and text message databases and generating ticket sales leads
    - Attending monthly meetings and office hours during the school year as part of HSMA
    - Performing other duties as assigned

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Must be a current UH undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in sports administration, marketing, business, advertising, public relations or related field. Must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Candidates must be team-oriented and must be able to work approximately 10 hours a week, including assigned office hours and events. Applicant must be available on nights and weekends - including each home event for his or her assigned sports and every home football game. Knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite is preferred.

     SPORTS PERFORMANCE
    Houston Cougar Sports Performance is accepting applications for our Sports Performance Internship Program for an unpaid position.

    Intern responsibilities include: assisting with the supervision of training programs; assisting with daily administrative and maintenance items; completion of various educational assignments during the internship.

    Intern qualifications include: punctuality, enthusiasm, strong work ethic and a commitment to volunteer a minimum of 40 hours per week. Preferred qualifications include: Senior status or completion of a bachelor's degree in exercise science or related field; CSCS, SCCC, or USAW certification; CPR certification.

    Interns will receive experience working in a Division I training environment, have the potential to earn recommendations for future career opportunities and receive college credit if applicable.
