Freshman midfielder Rachel Hyatt tallied her first career goal as the Wofford women's soccer team defeated the University of Houston, 1-0, on the Terriers' home field on Sunday (Sept. 5) afternoon in Spartanburg, S.C. Houston controlled and dominated much of the first half, and the game went into half-time in a scoreless tie. The tides were reversed in the second half, as Wofford kept the pressure on. Less than two minutes into the second half, Wofford sophomore Jessica Connett fired a shot towards the Cougar goal, which was initially saved off the back line by a Houston defender. Hyatt ran in and collected the rebound and placed it into the open net at the 46:13 mark for the only score of the game. Chelsea Davis led the Cougars with four shots on the afternoon, including three on goal, while Brooke Simon followed with three. Terrier goalie Somers collected eight saves in goal for her second straight shutout and ninth of her career. With the loss, Houston falls remains winless on the 2004. They return home to Robertson Stadium and host UNLV on Friday, Sept. 10 with kick-off at 7:00p.m.
