LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The University of Houston golf team finished third at the UALR Collegiate Classic on Tuesday with a 54-hole total of 882.
The Cougars finished five strokes behind team champion Lamar on the 7,221-yard, par-72 course at Chenal Country Club. Texas-Arlington placed second at 879, while North Texas (883), Oral Roberts (900), Louisiana-Monroe (901), Middle Tennessee (908), Missouri State (911), Arkansas-Little Rock (914) and Sam Houston State (917) rounded out the Top 10 team leaders.
Individually, junior Pablo Acuna tied for second at 2-under-par 214 to lead the Cougar linksters. The Guatemala City, Guatemala, native posted an even-par 72 in the final round for his final standing.
Junior Ricky Romano finished ninth at the tournament with a score of 220, while sophomore Jordan Irwin tied for 15th at 223. Other Cougars in action were senior Zach Mowbray (t-44th, 231) and senior Kevin Newman (t-71st, 242).
North Texas' Austin Welch won medallist honors at 212.
The Cougars return to action on April 7-8 at the Courtyard by Marriott Intercollegiate in Cary, N.C. It will be the team's final tune-up before the Conference USA Championships on April 24-26 in West Point, Miss.
