Rice controlled the field for most of the first half, taking six corners in the first 20 minutes. Despite outshooting the Owls, the Cougars were unable to net the ball. Senior forward Katelyn Rhodes saw an opportunity in the 17th minute, but went wide.
Both teams went into the locker rooms scoreless.
The Owls scored the lone goal in the emotionally charged second half. Senior defender Lauren LaGro netted a penalty kick in the 63rd minute.
Rice (11-6-3, 8-2-1 C-USA) leads Houston 6-3-3 in the all-time series.
SENIOR RECOGNITION
Houston honored its four seniors prior to the start of home finale. Recognized for their on- and off-the-field honors, seniors Kaci Bush, Katelyn Rhodes, Ciara Slayton, and Morgan Vela were introduced with their families in a special pregame ceremony.
UP NEXT
Sunday's match-up against Southern Miss has ben cancelled. The Cougars will travel to El Paso, Texas to compete in the C-USA Championship. No. 8 Houston will play No. 1 Colorado College at noon, Oct. 31.
