CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Houston Soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 decision at Cincinnati on Sunday afternoon in American Athletic Conference play.
The Cougars had a career-high nine saves from junior goalkeeper Jordan Brown, but were unable to keep the Cincinnati offense off the scoreboard.
"Cincinnati plays more of a direct physical game then the other teams in our conference," head coach Chris Pfau said. "They are big and just look to get it forward as quickly as possible and use their speed or size. This is something that we have struggled with in the past. I thought we did a really good job of battling and competing. We had one moment of lapse with 30 seconds left in first half, were we feel asleep and they were able to get in behind us."
With just 18 seconds remaining in the first half, Cincinnati midfielder Taylor Jackson got in past Brown and finished in the net to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead headed into half time. That goal would eventually end up as the game winner.
"This weekend, even though we did not get the result, showed me we have really improved as a team," said Pfau."We showed we can play and compete with these teams on the road which we really did not do last year."
