HOUSTON - After several postseason accolades, senior outside hitter Kadi Kullerkann was honored once again for her outstanding 2014 season as she was awarded American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division I All-America Honorable Mention.
Kullerkann is the first student-athlete to earn this accomplishment since Lucy Charuk was named Third Team All-America in 2011. Kullerkann is now the second Cougar in school history to be named AVCA All-America and the eighth All-American for Houston Volleyball. She is one of six athletes from the American Athletic Conference to be selected to the All-America Honorable Mention status.
Earlier this month, the Estonian native was named to the AVCA Division I Southeast All-Region Team and First Team All-American Athletic Conference for her top performance this season.
Kullerkann closed out the year leading the conference with 644 kills, averaging 5.03 per set. She also ranked third in the nation for total kills and total attacks and is fifth in the nation for kills per set. Kullerkann stands third in kills for a single season in school history and is now the conference record holder for the most kills and kills per set in a single season.
The Estonian native played in all 32 matches this season, only missing one set. She recorded double-digit kills in all 32 matches and led the team with a hitting average of .274.
This season, Kullerkann tallied 686.5 points, averaging 5.36 per set, to lead the conference. Her average ranks eighth nationally.
The 37-kill performance in a five-set victory over Texas A&M Corpus-Christi (Sept. 19) is the second best showing by any Division I athlete this season. Kullerkann wrote herself into the conference record books as she broke the record for the most kills in a match.
