Cougars Host UCF on Senior Day

HOUSTON â€" The Houston Cougar women's soccer team wraps up the home portion of their 2015 schedule when they host the UCF Knights on Sunday, Oct. 18 at Carl Lewis Field. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., and will be Houston's Senior Day.
Head Coach Chris Pfau and the Cougars will honor six seniors, forward Lexa Green, midfielder Hailey Kirkwood, defenders Sydnie Green, Meghan Brascia and Gabby Rodriguez, and goalkeeper Jordan Brown, for their careers at Houston. The pre-match ceremony is expected to begin around 12:45 p.m., on Sunday. The senior class has combined to play over 200 games and collect more than 150 starts, while logging over 15,000 minutes of game action.
Sophomore Selena Peters leads the Cougars during the 2015 season in goals and points. Peters has four goals and an assist to give her nine points on the year. Senior Lexa Green stands second on the team in points with eight on three goals and two assists.
ABOUT THE KNIGHTS
UCF brings a 9-5-1 record into Houston and are winners of their last three games including a 2-1 win over SMU in Dallas, earlier this week on Oct. 15. After dropping three of their first four American Athletic Conference contests, the Knights have rebounded and their three-game winning streak has their conference record at 4-3.
Carol Rodrigues leads the knights in several offensive categories including goals and points. Rodriguez has scored 10 goals on just 19 shots-on-goal, and has added three assists to give her 23 points on the season. Rodrigues and teammate Ashley Spivey each have four game-winning goals for UCF in 2015.
Vera Varis has logged 1,208 minutes for UCF in goals this season, and has compiled an 8-4-1 overall record. Varis has 50 saves on 70 chances for a 1.49 goals-against-average and a .714 save percentage.
UP NEXT FOR HOUSTON
The Cougars travel back out on the road for their final two matches of the regular season. Houston heads to Storrs, Conn., to take on UConn on Thursday, Oct. 22 at 6 p.m., before facing Temple in the season finale, in Philadelphia, Pa., on Sunday, Oct. 25 at noon.
