Cougars Fall 1-0 at SMU

HOUSTON â€" The Houston Cougar women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision on the road at American Athletic Conference foe SMU, on Friday, in Dallas, Texas.
Houston held the Mustangs scoreless into the 30th minute, but Paige Jacobs was able to break the tie with 15:44 remaining in the first half. Jacobs played a ball from teammate Lissi Lonsberry for her first goal of the season.
"In first half we came out and were very nervous," Head Coach Chris Pfau said. "We have a lot of Dallas players, and we tried to do too much and never found our rhythm. SMU scored a great goal and they deserve the win, but I was disappointed how we played that half."
Senior goalkeeper Jordan Brown stopped six shots in the contest giving her 138 in her career at Houston, while senior Hailey Kirkwood and sophomore Vanessa Almaguer each registered shots on goal for the Cougars.
"The good is we came out in the second half and did a much better job on the ball and started to play our game," Pfau said. "We limited them with their chances, and we created some very good ones. We had to move a lot of players around due to injuries, and some of these players have never played in those roles, but they stepped up and we can take a lot from that."
"As I said after ECU, it is frustrating, because we are so close and playing really good soccer. I really believe that we have come a long way from last year, and we can grow from these games." Pfau said.
