LUBBOCK, Texas – Despite a trio of Cougars tallying 12 kills apiece, including a career-high total from redshirt junior Barakat Rahmon, the University of Houston Volleyball team fell in four sets to Texas Tech inside United Supermarkets Arena on Wednesday evening.Â

Â
The first set remained close early. Houston claimed a two-point edge after eight serves, but a 4-0 run for Texas Tech gave the Red Raiders their own two-point advantage. Tech maintained its lead until the Cougars surged to go back in front, 15-13. The teams traded blows after, tying at 15-15, 16-16, 17-17 and 18-18 before a 3-0 stretch put Texas Tech in front for good, allowing them to claim the opener, 25-23.Â
Â
The Red Raiders continued to hold the momentum into the second. A 5-0 run from Texas Tech gave the host team a 10-3 lead that they never ceded, going up by two with a 25-17 victory.Â
Â
Houston fought back in the third. Despite dropping the opening two points, Houston rallied to claim an 11-8 advantage on the back of a 3-0 run. While Texas Tech tied the set at 11-all, the Cougars never relinquished the lead as Houston extended the match with a 25-21 set win in the third.Â
Â
The fourth set began as a back-and-forth affair with each team holding the lead before Texas Tech won the race to double-digits. Facing another tie at 11-11, the Red Raiders used a 3-0 run to reclaim the advantage, but the Cougars answered to even the frame again at 15-15. After trading a point each, three straight points for the Red Raiders gave them the lead for good, winning the set, 25-21, and the match, 3-1.Â
