
Four Named to College Sport Communicators Volleyball Academic All-District Team

Corelli, Georgiades, Rocassin, Shimaitis earned the academic honor
HOUSTON – Four members of the University of Houston Volleyball team earned College Sport Communicators Academic All-District accolades, the professional organization announced Tuesday.Â

Senior Katie Corelli (Entrepreneurship), graduate Kate Georgiades (Health – Post-Baccalaureate), graduate Rebecca Rocassin (Health – Post-Baccalaureate) and junior Avery Shimaitis (Integrated Studies - Business and Consumer Science and Social Science) received the academic accolade from College Sport Communicators (CSC). The honor is Georgiades' third, Corelli's second and Rocassin's and Shimaitis' first. Georgiades was selected for advancement to the Academic All-America ballot, voted on by members of College Sport Communicators. Academic All-America selections will be released on Jan. 14, 2025.

Corelli and Georgiades were two of six Cougars to start all 28 matches this season. Corelli posted the highest hitting percentage on the team (.290, 319-103-745) among qualified attackers and finished second in kills and kills per set (2.98). Georgiades earned All-Big 12 Conference First Team honors, completing four consecutive seasons on an All-Conference First Team list, after tallying 4.97 digs per set for a total of 532 on the season.Â

Rocassin played in 27 of Houston's 28 matches, amassing 374 assists along with 26 service aces, while Shimaitis placed third on the team with 205 kills.

ABOUT THE AWARD
The 2024 Academic All-District® Volleyball teams, selected by CSC, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes volleyball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Academic All-District honorees must meet both academic and athletic requirements, which include maintaining a cumulative 3.5 GPA and playing in either 90 percent of the team's matches or starting 66 percent of matches.Â
