Head Coach David Rehr’s squad to open season as one of eight Big 12 teams receiving votes
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Volleyball team received votes in the preseason release of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll, the organization announced Wednesday.Â
Â
The Cougars collected 26 points in the poll, one of eight Big 12 teams to earn nods from the head coach voters and the seventh-most points of a Big 12 team. It continues a streak of four straight seasons with Houston earning votes in at least one AVCA poll.Â
Â
Houston returns middle blockers Barakat Rahmon and Kellen Morin, who have combined for 359 career blocks, as well as right-side Avery Shimaitis and a duo of rising sophomores in Lily Barron and Addisyn Pohl. Joining the Cougars for the 2025 season are four transfers – Lottie Scully, Halle Schroder, Brenya Reid and Alyssa Gonzalez – as well as incoming freshmen Tenesyn Frye, Tara Greenberry, Olivia Klimis, Gillian Pitts and Aubrey Sears. Â
Â
The Cougars have seen historic success under Coach Rehr, including the team's first conference championship since 1999 and a pair of trips to the NCAA Tournament (2022 Sweet Sixteen, 2023 Second Round). Rehr has led Houston to a 115-60 (.657) record in his six seasons at the helm, mentoring student-athletes who have earned 21 All-Conference accolades, 12 All-America honors and five positional Player of the Year titles.Â
