PREVIEW: Volleyball Hosts Liberty, North Alabama, McNeese for Cougar Challenge

Cougars face off against trio of teams for two-day tournament
HOUSTON – The Houston Volleyball team returns home for the Cougar Challenge, the last tournament of its non-conference slate, this weekend at Fertitta Center.
Opening the weekend against Liberty at 7 p.m., Friday, Houston then plays a doubleheader against North Alabama (1 p.m.) and McNeese (7 p.m.) on Saturday.
Friday is Houston's Hispanic Heritage match with fans encouraged to participate in volleyball loteria while Saturday marks both the team's camper reunion and local heroes match.

- Houston stumbled in its first two ranked tests of the season last weekend, dropping three-set matches to both #14 Purdue and #3 Kentucky.
- The Cougars play a doubleheader for the first time since having three in non-conference play in 2022.
- Nine of Houston's 17 players are newcomers to the team this year, including five freshmen and four transfers. Among the freshmen are libero Gillian Pitts, outside hitters Tara Greenberry and Aubrey Sears and setters Tenesyn Frye and Olivia Klimis. Outside hitters Brenya Reid, Halle Schroder, Alyssa Gonzales and setter Lottie Scully make up the 2025 transfer class for the Cougars.
- Head Coach David Rehr is in his seventh season at the helm of the Cougars. In his time with Houston, he's posted a 120-63 record, including a 72-31 record in conference play.
- The Cougars' blocking effort has been a highlight for the team this season. Ranking 28th in the nation with 2.73 blocks per set, the mark currently sits as Houston's highest mark with 1998 when the team amassed 3.03 per set.
- Senior Lottie Scully ranks highly among the nation's top setters with her 2,675 career assists ranking 26th among active Division I players.
- Redshirt senior Kellen Morin also ranks highly among active NCAA Division I players, sitting 42nd with an average of 1.01 blocks per set.
