Lori Selzer joined the University of Houston in November 1999 as a teaching assistant before moving into the UH Athletics Department in 1997 as an athletic tutor. Selzer has been an academic advisor in the athletic department since 2004.
As the Director for Academic Services, Selzer is the academic advisor for three athletic teams advising student-athletes in course selection, choice of major and career selection. Selzer helps Houston student-athletes maintain degree plans and progress towards degree completion for each of her student-athletes and authenticate student-athlete academic eligibility to perform in their chosen sport.
Prior to her time in the Athletics Alumni Center, Selzer served as an adjunct professor, coordinator of student services at the Sugar Land campus, as an athletics tutor and as a teaching assistant.
Selzer earned her Master of Education with an emphasis in Counseling and Guidance in 2001 after earning her Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies in 1997.
Currently, Selzer teaches Hlt 1353: Introduction to Health, for the College of Education at UH.
Selzer has been a current member of the University of Houston Undergraduate Committee since 2012.
As an academic and an author, Selzer co-authored Weaving Family Tapestries, a college-level textbook from 2002-10 authoring The Basic Tenets of Polyamory, an article withing the textbook.
