Cougars Fall to Golden Hurricane

HOUSTON – The University of Houston softball team couldn't overcome a four-run third inning by Tulsa in a 4-2 loss to the Golden Hurricane on Saturday afternoon at Cougar Softball Stadium.

Senior Mattie Boyd (0-4) tallied the loss in the circle for Houston (19-23, 6-5). Sophomore Hannah Blincoe, who entered in relief in the third, tossed 4.1 shutout innings, only allowing two hits in her 16^th appearance of the season. Kylee Nash (8-11) picked up the complete-game win for Tulsa (19-23, 5-6).

Game Highlights

With a walk in the fourth inning, sophomore utility Turiya Coleman has reached in each of her last 11 games. Her longest streak of the season is 15 games.
Senior infielder Bree Cantu tallied her team-leading 30^th RBI of the season.
Sophomore infielder Brooke Lorenzo leads the team with six sacrifice hits this season.

Key Innings
3^rd | After two singles and a walk loaded the bases for the Golden Hurricane, Imani Edwards hit a grand slam to right-center to put Tulsa up 4-0.

4^th | Coleman lead off the fourth with her 19^th walk of the year, then advanced to third on a pair of groundouts. Sophomore catcher Emma Robertson put Houston on the board, singling home Coleman to shrink the gap to 4-1.

5^th | Houston cut the deficit further in the fifth. Sophomore outfielder Ja'Naiya Thomas reached on a single to third and later scored as Cantu reached on an infield single, making the score 4-2.

After the pair of Houston runs, Tulsa's Nash shut the door, not allowing a Houston runner in the sixth or seventh to clinch the win.

UP NEXT
Houston finishes the series against Tulsa on Sunday at noon. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.

Sunday is Houston's Bark at the Park Day and fans are encouraged to bring their dogs for the noon start against Tulsa.
