Cougar Soccer Notches Win over Southern Miss

Sophomore Sarah Fisher slid a pass from from Amanda Hale into the net as the University of Houston women's soccer team shut down the Southern Miss Golden Eagles by a final of 1-0 on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 26) in Hattiesburg, Miss.
From the start, Southern Miss controlled possession of the ball and the match. The Lady Eagles shot 12 times in the first half to Houston's three. On one particular flurry in front of Houston's net, Lady Eagle forward Lauren Prewitt bounced two shots off the crossbar a matter of seconds apart. Still, the match went to halftime scoreless.
In the second half, Southern Miss had additionally opportunities. The Lady Eagles put four shots on net, but each was stopped by Cougar goal keeper Nicole Oliver.
In all, Southern Miss took more shots, 19-8, put more on goal, 6-1, and had more opportunities on corner kicks, 5-3.
With the win, Houston improves to 4-5-0 on the year, inclduing 1-1-0 in C-USA play. The Cougars return hometo Robertson Stadium and host two Conference USA games with Saint Louis on Friday, Oct. 1 at 7:00pm, and Memphis on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 1:00pm.
