Houston Volleyball Snaps Four-Match Skid

HOUSTON - The University of Houston Volleyball team snapped its four-game skid with a 3-2 (25-21, 22-25, 25-19, 20-25, 15-10) win over UConn Sunday afternoon on Girl Scout Day.
The Cougars improved to 10-10 on the season, 2-6 in the American Athletic Conference. The Huskies dropped to 9-10, 2-6 and continue its five-game losing streak.
Houston jumped out to a 1-0 lead as the Cougars took a 25-21 win in set one. But, the Huskies rallied as they tied the match 1-1 heading into the half, winning the second set 25-22.
Coming out of intermission, the Cougars rallied with a 25-19 win in set three to take a 2-1 lead. This season, Houston Volleyball is now 6-3 when leading 2-1 in the match. However, Houston couldn't fend off UConn in set four as the Huskies tied it once again 2-2, forcing a decisive fifth set.
Although the Huskie won the toss and chose to serve, the Cougars were on top the entire set and sealed a match win over UConn with a 15-10 set five win.
Houston's defense at the net was on point today as the Cougars tallied 12.0 team blocks (1-22), matching the season high. Freshman setter led the Cougars with six blocks herself.
Senior Kadi Kullerkann recorded her sixth consecutive 20-kill match with 26 kills against the Huskies. The match marked her 11th 20-kill performance of the season. The Estonian native also recorded five digs and three blocks in the five-set match.
Freshman outside hitter Sarah Afflerbaugh picked up her first collegiate double-double with 11 kills and 19 digs.
Senior right side Cortney Warren led the Cougars with a hitting average of .400, notching 15 kills and just three errors.
Senior libero Natalie Keck tallied 36 digs against the Huskies, the second most this season. The match marked her fourth consecutive game with 20+ kills and the 12th of the season. Keck has totaled 1,868 career digs and is just 48 digs away from second place in the school history books.

Houston continues American Athletic Conference play as the Cougars face the Florida schools next weekend. Houston is set to play UCF Friday at 6 p.m. CT followed by a Sunday match at 11 a.m. CT vs. South Florida.
