HOUSTON - A 32-kill performance by Kadi Kullerkann and a 33-dig performance by senior libero Natalie Keck wasn't enough to outlast UConn as the Houston Volleyball team fell in five sets (25-21, 23-25, 25-16, 18-25, 8-15) Wednesday afternoon.
Due to a wintery weather storm on the East Coast, UConn moved the match up to 1 p.m. (CST) from its original scheduled time of 6 p.m. (CST).
Houston dropped to 14-17 on the season, 6-13 in the American Athletic Conference while UConn (11-19, 4-15) picked up its fourth win of the conference season.
As a team, the Cougars outplayed the Huskies in several categories. Houston led with 63 kills, a hitting average of .188 and 81 digs. However, UConn blocked out the Cougars with 11.0 team blocks while Houston only had 9.0 blocks. Ball handling errors and service errors plagued Houston's game, ultimately leading to a 3-2 defeat.
Senior libero Natalie Keck tallied 33 digs in the five set match, reaching her 600th dig of the season. She has now recorded 630 on the year for a career high and the third most digs in a single season in school history. Wednesday's match marked Keck's second best dig performance of the season.
With her 32 kill performance against the Huskies, senior hitter Kadi Kullerkann reached her 600th kill this season. She is now at 629 on the year, a career high and the third most kills in a single season by a Cougar. This match marked Kullerkann's third 30+kill performance of the season.
