MEMPHIS, Tenn. â€" The Houston Soccer team led for over 83 minutes in a 2-1 overtime loss to Memphis, Sunday afternoon.
How It Happened
The Houston defense put on a spectacular display from the opening kick, holding off a barrage of shots from the Memphis offense. It wasn't until the 33rd minute, that the Houston offense would take advantage of an opening in the Tiger defense. Sophomore forward Madison Soileau dribbled into the box, flicking a pass to Mia Brascia who would net her second goal of the season.
With 16:41 left to play and the Cougars holding on to a 1-0 lead, both teams would head inside due to lightning in the Memphis area.
One hour and 37 minutes later, both teams would return to action. Memphis would notch the equalizer inside the 84th minute off a penalty kick. Both teams would continue to battle it out as the final minutes of regulation whittled away.
Memphis carried its aggressive style of play into overtime, racking up two shots in two and half minutes. Inside the 92nd minute of play, Memphis would play in a long ball, notching the game winning goal off a header into the right side of the net.
