Junior begins stroke play at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort on Monday afternoon
BANDON, Ore. – University of Houston Women's Golf junior Maelynn Kim will tee off at the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort on Monday.
Playing in her first U.S. Women's Amateur Championship, Kim will join a field of 156 competitors at the nation's premier amateur event on the 6,310-yard, par-72 course.
Golfers will play 36 holes of stroke play ending Tuesday. From there, the Top 64 golfers will advance to match play beginning Wednesday morning. If necessary, a playoff will be held to trim the draw to 64. The 36-hole championship match will be held Sunday.
Kim earned an exemption into the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship after capturing the title at the Women's Western Amateur Championship with a 1 up victory over Elizabeth Rudisill at Red Run Golf Club on July 19.
It was Kim's second tournament championship of the summer season. In June, she claimed medalist honors at the Southern Amateur Championship with a 2&1 win over Alise Knudson at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, La.
This marks the sixth straight season in which at least one Cougar will participate at the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship. A year ago, senior Alexa Saldaña and Annika Ishiyama competed at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.
