Moa Svedenskiold Qualifies for NCAA Championships

Cougars finish sixth with score of 886 at NCAA Columbus Regional for program’s best postseason showing

Tied through 14 holes with SMU's Emily Odwin for the lone qualifier spot, Svedenskiold posted par on Nos. 15-16 and broke the tie for good with a birdie on the 160-yard, par-3 17th hole.
The Halmstad, Sweden, native found trouble in the right rough with her tee off No. 18 but got her approach shot to the green and two-putted from there to save par and punch her ticket to the NCAA Championships for the first time in her award-winning career.

As a team, the 26th-ranked Cougars finished the three-day, 54-hole event with a score of 886 for a sixth-place showing on the 6,319-yard, par-72 Scarlet Course.
It was the second straight season the Cougars under Carolyn Macow Leatherwood Head Coach Lydia Lasprilla finished sixth at an NCAA Regional, the program's best team finish in the NCAA postseason.
Junior Alexa Saldana posted a 74 for the third straight day and tied for 26th at 222 while sophomore Maelynn Kim tied for 28th at 224. Junior Natalie Saint Germain finished 50th with a score of 230.
Competing in her final collegiate event, senior Hyeonji Kang joined Svedenskiold under par with a 71 Wednesday and finished 66th at 151 after sitting out the First Round. Making her NCAA postseason debut, freshman Annika Ishiyama finished 67th with an 82.
#23 Kansas won the team championship with a score of 858 to finish three shots ahead of #2 Arkansas. They joined #14 and host Ohio State (865), #39 UNLV (868) and #10 LSU (882) among the Top-Five leaders to earn places at the NCAA Championships.
Following the Cougars, Kent State (889), #35 SMU (890), #47 Illinois (891) and Xavier (893) rounded out the Top-10 teams.
Kansas' Lyla Louderbaugh earned medalist honors with a score of 204 to finish eight shots ahead of Arkansas teammates Maria Jose Marin and Clarisa Temelo. UNLV's Toa Yokoyama finished fourth at 213.
NCAA REGIONALS HISTORY
With the NCAA Columbus Regional, Houston was represented in 10 straight NCAA Regionals dating back to the 2015 season with team appearances in nine of the last 10 years.
A year ago, the Cougars competed as the No. 7 seed at the NCAA Auburn Regional and tied for sixth at Auburn University Club in Auburn, Ala., on May 6-8, 2024.
Two Cougar All-Americans have earned three berths into the NCAA Championships as individuals during the program's history.
Leonie Harm qualified for the 2018 and 2016 NCAA Championships while Karen Fredgaard earned the most recent invitation in 2021, tying for 28th for the highest individual finish at the nation's top collegiate event.
