Three Women’s Golfers to Compete at World Amateur Team Championships

Tournament to be held Oct. 1-4 in Singapore

Seniors Moa Svedenskiold (Sweden), Alexa Saldana (Mexico) and Natalie Saint Germain (Czech Republic) will represent their home nations at Tanah Merah Country Club in Singapore on Oct. 1-4.
All three student-athletes stand among the top 450 amateur players in the world.
Svedenskiold will compete for Team Sweden under Coach Fredrik Wetterstrand and captain Marcus Lester with teammates Kajsalotta Svarvar and Meja Ortengren.
Saldana will play for Team Mexico under Coach Marcelo Trevino Derbez and captain Ricardo Carrillo with teammates Maria Jose Barragan and Alexis Lamadrid.
Saint Germain will compete for Team Czech Republic under Coach Lukas Pavelka and captain Svatopluk Byma with teammates Veronika Kedronova and Anna Ludvova.
ABOUT HOUSTON WOMEN'S GOLF
The Houston Women's Golf program is one of the most diverse sport programs within the Athletics Department under Carolyn Macow Leatherwood Head Coach Lydia Lasprilla.
Seven of its eight student-athletes on the Women's Golf roster are award-winning international players. In addition to Saldana, Svedenskiold and Saint Germain, the Cougars include Sadie Adams and Ellen Yates (England), Chiara Brambilla (Italy) and Emilia Vaisto (Finland) with junior American Maelynn Kim.
ABOUT MOA SVEDENSKIOLD
Svedenskiold – whose name is pronounced Mo-Uh Suh-Vee-Den-Kee-Old – earned her ticket to the NCAA Championships came after finishing fifth with a score of 2-under 214 at the NCAA Columbus Regional on the Scarlet Course at Ohio State Golf Club on May 5-7. The Halmstad, Sweden, native fired three straight rounds of par or lower at that postseason opener.
In 2024-25, Svedenskiold led the Cougars with a 72.31 scoring average, 19 rounds of par or lower and seven in the 60s.
She won individual championships at the Veritex Bank Collegiate (April 7-8, Trinity Forest Golf Club, Dallas) and Riverbend Intercollegiate (March 10-11, Riverbend Country Club, Sugar Land, Texas), becoming only the second Cougar (Leonie Harm) to win multiple tournaments in a single season.
Svedenskiold topped the Cougars this season with four Top-Five finishes and five Top-10 showings.
She owns the three top scoring averages in Houston single-season history and leads all Cougars with a career 71.86 total.


ABOUT NATALIE SAINT GERMAIN
Saint Germain is a pre-business administration major and was among the Cougars' most consistent stars last season.
The Prague native finished second on the team with a 72.73 scoring average and was third with 15 rounds of par or lower, including five in the 60s.
Saint Germain enjoyed five Top-15 individual finishes and tied her career best with a fourth-place finish at the Riverbend Intercollegiate to help lead Houston to the team title.
In mid-April, she posted a score of 218, thanks to a 67 in the Second Round, and tied for 10th at the Big 12 Championships at The Clubs at Houston Oaks in Hockley, Texas. For her impressive performance she was named to the Big 12 Championships All-Tournament Team for the first time in her career.
She was a member of the Spring Academic All-Big 12 Conference teams for each of the last two years and earned a place on the 2022-23 American Athletic Conference All-Academic squad. Saint Germain also was named a Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar twice (2024-25, 2022-23) and was a member of the College Sports Communicators All-District Team last season.


ABOUT ALEXA SALDANA
Saldana was a steady presence in the Cougars' lineup throughout the 2024-25 season.
Competing in 32 rounds over 11 tournaments, she finished third on the team with a 73.06 scoring average and added 14 rounds of par or lower.
Saldana earned five Top-20 finishes with a career-best third-place showing at the Riverbend Intercollegiate at Riverbend Country Club in Sugar Land, Texas, to help lead the Cougars to their third team tournament championship of the year, tying a school single-season record.
During the fall season, she tied for seventh at the Illini Invitational at Medinah with a score of 8-under 208, tying her 54-hole career-best total.
Saldana also was named to the Spring Academic All-Big 12 Conference Team for her outstanding work in the classroom.


UP NEXT
Svedenskiold, Saint Germain, Saldana and the Cougars open the 2025-26 season when they tee off at the Schooner Fall Classic at Belmar Golf Club in Norman, Okla., on Sept. 20-22.
Last season, the Cougars captured the team championship at the rain-shortened event with a score of 9-under 551 behind Saint German's team-leading score of 136.
