HOUSTON - With a second-place finish in only his second appearance as a Cougar, University of Houston junior James Ross was honored Wednesday afternoon as the Conference USA Golfer of the Week.
Playing steady through 54 holes, Ross earned a second-place finish at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic and helped lead the Cougars to a share of the team title.
The Edinburgh, Scotland, native hit a birdie on the 16th hole and wrapped up the final round with back-to-back pars to preserve the tie for the Cougars.
Ross shot a final-round 69 for a season low after posting an even-par 70 in the second round on the par-70, 7,023-yard Warren Course. He finished one stroke behind the medalist.
He shared the weekly honor with East Carolina's Adam Stephenson. SMU's Felicia Espericueta and Tulsa's Kristina Merkle were named the league's Female Co-Golfers of the Week.
