Cougars use record-low round to win team crown; Senior Hudson Weibel claims individual championship in playoff

The Cougars used a school-record low round of 23-under 265 to finish with a three-day score of 32-under 832 and win by six strokes over South Alabama.
It topped the previous low round of 267, set during the Second Round of the OGIO Utah Invitational at The Jeremy Golf and Country Club in Park City, Utah, on Oct. 5, 2015.
Senior Hudson Weibel fired his third straight round in the 60s on the way to a bogey-free 66 and tied with Louisiana's Malan Potgieter at 13-under 275 through 54 holes.
Starting off No. 1 on the 7,185-yard, par-72 course, Weibel quickly moved under par with back-to-back birdies at Nos. 2-3.
After five straight pars, he closed his first nine with another birdie on the par-5 ninth hole and drained back-to-back birdies again at Nos. 11-12.
Trailing Potgieter by a stroke, Weibel moved into a tie with another birdie on the 561-yards, par-5 17th hole and made par on his final hole to force the playoff.
Both student-athletes made par on the first hole of the playoff at No. 1, so the action shifted to No. 1. After each player hit the fairway on their drives, Weibel holed out an eagle from 123 yards out to capture the first title of his collegiate career.

Dismuke led the Cougars to the 20th title during his award-winning career.
Weibel was part of a dazzling Final-Round performance by Houston, which saw all five student-athletes in the starting lineup finish under par with three of those shooting 66 or lower.
While winning the individual title on Tuesday, Weibel posted only the team's third-lowest round of the day.
Junior Chi Chun Chen etched his name in the Houston records book with an 8-under 64 and moved up 33 places in the standings to tie for seventh at 208.
Chen moved into red numbers early with a birdie at No. 1 and overcame his lone bogey of the day with three birdies over the next four holes to close his first nine.
Following a birdie at No. 11 and three straight pars, the Tainan, Taiwan, native ended the tournament with four straight birdies.
Chen became the 12th Cougar to shoot 64 or lower in a round and the first since Wolfgang Glawe tied the school mark with a 63 in the First Round of the White Sands WVU Invitational on Oct. 25, 2024.
Junior Grant Doggett made biggest jump in the final standings, rising 36 places to tie for 12th at 6-under 210, thanks to a 65 on Tuesday. The Beach City, Texas, native got off to a roaring start with three birdies in his first four holes and overcame a bogey at No. 8 with his fourth birdie of the first nine at No. 9.
Following his final bogey at No. 10, Doggett sank another birdie at No. 11 and closed the tournament with four birdies in his final five holes.
He topped his previous low round of 68, set during the First Round of the Bentwater Invitational on Feb. 10, 2025.
Sophomore Hsuan-Yi Chen sank three birdies in a six-hole stretch midway through his Final Round for a 70 and tied for 15th at 211.
Senior Kevin An, competing in his first season at Houston after transferring from Oral Roberts this summer, posted a 71 in the Final Round and tied for 68th at 221. Playing as an individual, senior Bryant Hiskey II tied for 84th at 224.
Memphis' Yixiang Wang and South Alabama's Joshua Hill finished third at 204 while Jake Moffit (Southern Miss) and Alfons Bondesson (LSU) tied for fifth at 206. North Texas' Mitchell Maier joined Chi Chun Chen in a tie for seventh at 208.
