
Men’s Golf Opens 2025 Fall Season on Sunday

Cougars tee off at Argent Financial Classic at Squire Creek Country Club

The Cougars will play 18 holes each day with the Final Round beginning Tuesday morning.
A year ago, Houston fired a team score of 4-under 860 and finished second at the Argent Financial Classic. Chi Chun Chen and Jacob Borow each finished at 3-under 213 to tie for fifth.

ABOUT the COUGARS
Under the leadership of Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke, Houston will be represented by junior Grant Doggett, senior Hudson Weibel, junior Chi Chun Chen, sophomore Hsuan-Yi Chen and senior Kevin An. Senior Bryant Hiskey II will compete as an individual.
Weibel returns as the Cougars' leading performer from a year ago after posting a 71.55 scoring average with 15 rounds of par or lower, including nine in the 60s. The Dallas native earned two Top-Five finished and a pair of Top-10 showings.
He finished second at the White Sands WVU Invitational in Bahamas in late October, thanks to a career-low 65 in the Second Round, and followed that with a fifth-place finish at the Houston Classic to open his spring season.

Chi Chun Chen finished fourth among the Cougars with a 71.67 scoring average a year ago and led the team with 17 rounds of par or better in 33 total rounds.
Hsuan-Yi Chen will compete as a member of the Cougars' team lineup for the first time in his young career. The Daxi, Taiwan, native earned Top-10 finishes in back-to-back events ago with an eighth-place finish at the UHV Claud Jacobs Invitational in February. He also was named to the 2024-25 Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team for his impressive work in the classroom during his inaugural collegiate season.
Doggett competed in 10 tournaments in 2024-25 with a fourth-place finish at the UHV Claud Jacobs Invitational and enjoyed some of his best work during the summer.
The Beach City, Texas, native qualified to compete at the U.S. Amateur Championship in early August and finished second at the Magnolia Amateur Championship with a score of 13-under 200. He also finished as the low amateur at the Texas State Open with a score of 11-under 269.
An – who last name is pronounced Ahn – is in his first year at Houston after playing for the last two seasons at Oral Roberts. There, he captured the Summit League Championships individual title, shooting 67-69 during the final two rounds.
Hiskey competed in seven tournaments a year ago and finished second at the UHV Claud Jacobs Invitational with a score of 8-under 208 after posting three straight rounds of par or lower. In addition, he joined Weibel and Chi Chun Chen on the Spring Academic All-Big 12 Team.
TEAM FIELD
The Cougars will compete in a 17-team field featuring Lamar, Louisiana, North Texas, South Alabama, Middle Tennessee, Rice, Southern Miss, WKU, UAB, Nicholls, ULM, Troy, Memphis, UTSA, Jacksonville State and host Louisiana Tech with individuals from LSU.

For Sunday's First Round, Houston will compete in groups with student-athletes from Troy and Louisiana Tech.
An begins the day off No. 10 at 8:50 a.m., Sunday, with Hsuan-Yi Chen (9 a.m.), Chi Chun Chen (9:10 a.m.), Weibel (9:20 a.m.) and Doggett (9:30 a.m.) following. Hiskey begins his 2025-26 season off No. 10 at 8:30 a.m.

UP NEXT
Following the Argent Financial Classic, Houston closes the month when it competes at the Bayou City Intercollegiate at Westwood Golf Club in Houston on Sept. 28-29.
From there, the Cougars open October when they tee off at the Trinity Forest Invitational at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas on Oct. 6-8.
Houston then wraps up its fall season at The Bryson Invitational on the Ralston Creek Course at Daniel Island Club in Charleston, S.C., on Oct. 13-15.
